About Alex Gibbon - Real Estate Agent
Alex was born and raised in northern NSW. He developed a love of the land as
a result of being raised on his grandparents’ cattle property.
Commencing high school at St John’s College Woodlawn, Alex excelled at
rugby union. He was selected to play for NSW Country Under 17s and was named NSW Country Junior Player of the year. This led to him being offered a scholarship at St Joseph’s Nudgee College in Brisbane. It was here that Alex realised how much he loved playing in, and excelled at, a team sport.
In his final year at Nudgee College, Alex was offered a contract to join Southern District’s Rugby Club in Sydney to play in the Shute Shield. Alex made his mark here and was recognised as a player of note. He was named in the 2013 Team of the Year and selected for the NSW Waratah’s tour of Argentina. Alex’s determination, work ethic and on field communication did not go unnoticed. In the same year he was invited to captain the Australian side in the Oceania Cup.
However the highlight of Alex’s rugby career was being offered a full time contract with the Australian Sevens. He thoroughly enjoyed the fast pace of Sevens rugby and the opportunity it gave him to play around the world, including to play in the Hong Kong Sevens. During this five year period of playing for Australia, Alex made many lifelong friends both in Australia and overseas. He determined that rugby would always be a part of his life, be it as a player, coach or mentor.
In 2015, an opportunity to acquire land in the Northern Rivers enabled Alex and his partner to realise their dream of starting a cattle stud farm, which they named Stonebridge Droughtmasters.
In 2017, Alex seized the opportunity to work for a real estate marketing and software company. This in turn led to Alex making the transition away from professional rugby so that he could be closer to their expanding cattle stud operation.
In 2018, they acquired a further property at Capeen in the Northern Rivers which became home for Alex and his partner and is where they still reside today.
Marrying into a real estate family, Alex loved that real estate entailed helping people make one of the biggest decisions in their lives. He felt it was a profession akin to rugby, where an individual could excel based on his or her merits, determination and commitment. So, in 2020, when an invitation was extended to Alex to join Ray White Casino & Kyogle as their local agent, to complement their successful Stock and Station businesses, he jumped at it. This enabled him to fulfill his ambition of running a cattle operation whilst also assisting other people to buy or sell in the lovely and much sought after Northern Rivers area.
At the same time , Alex heard that there had once been a local rugby club in Mallanganee. After enlisting the support of some of the old boys and a number of enthusiastic supporters and players, Alex successfully re-launched the Richmond Range Rugby Club. In its maiden season, the club achieved outstanding results and made the quarter finals against some long established local clubs. Home games have seen strong support from the locals who have flocked to cheer on the local lads and to share a beer or two after the game.
