As Managing Director, Cary has been leading the team at Callaghers for more than three decades.

Today he’s one of the most respected business people in the property sector, especially in Sydney’s Inner West where he’s worked for his entire career. Callaghers, which is still independently family-owned, was established by his great grandfather in 1899. Cary joined in 1985.

But that’s only part of the story. Cary originally started tagging along to open houses and auctions with his dad, and former Callaghers managing director Bob Giezekamp when he was just 14 years old and sold his first home in Young St, Annandale at 15. 

A people-person even as a kid, Cary was immediately drawn to the chance to meet so many people from different walks of life. He also loved the excitement of an auction and the joy people experienced when they achieved their goal.

He also learnt a lot from his dad. A lot about honesty, integrity and professionalism. About building long-term relationships and trust. About supporting his team and building a culture that’s focussed on mutual respect, family values and transparency, as opposed to just turning a profit.

It’s these things he’s always remembered. They’ve been the key drivers to both his personal and professional outlook on life. He also mentors and supports his team to do the same. 

His vision has played a huge part in the continued growth and success of the family business, while many other independently-owned agencies have been swallowed up by their large, cookie-cutter counterparts under the umbrella of franchise groups.

Under his watch, Callaghers has been awarded both the Real Estate Agency of the Year and Residential Agency of the Year by the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW). It has also been named Small Business of the Year in the Inner West Business Awards.

Cary’s own commitment to Callaghers, the local community and improving the industry as a whole, has been recognised on many occasions.

He’s been named Business Person of the Year in the Inner West Business Awards, and has been a finalist in the John Greig OAM Community Service Award in the REINSW Awards for Excellence.

A licensed real estate agent and registered valuer, Cary has a true passion for the Inner West, its residents and real estate. He has lived in Annandale for more than 30 years.
