91 Hudson Parade, Clareville NSW 2107 - More Details

Reeves House | Architectural Distinction, Footsteps from Clareville Beach

By Peter Stutchbury and Sue Harper, 1999

Reeves House offers a rare opportunity to acquire one of the defining houses of contemporary Australian residential architecture. Designed by Peter Stutchbury and Sue Harper in association and realised between 1997 and 1999, the three-level residence occupies a private 1,347sqm site on the high side of Hudson Parade. Across approximately 208sqm of internal living space, its plan affords an uncommon spatial generosity throughout. The interior follows an east-west axis, opening to the north beneath a voluminous twisted skillion roof.

A largely closed southern and eastern masonry edge provides privacy and protection before the house opens to gardens, decks and filtered views of Pittwater. Full-height timber-framed doors fold away, extending the living room beneath the roof and making outdoor living fundamental to the plan. A restrained palette of concrete block, polished concrete, plywood, recycled timber and fine steel gives the interior warmth and clarity. Thermal mass, winter sun, summer shade and cross-ventilation provide year-round comfort.

In 2000, Reeves House was one of two residences commended in the Robin Boyd Award for Residential Architecture. Its selection as one of only 23 Australian single residences in Phaidon's global atlas - among 1,052 buildings across 75 countries - confirmed its international standing. Peter Stutchbury Architecture later added the swimming pool and extended the principal living deck.

Clareville Beach and the sheltered waters of Pittwater are just 150 metres away, with Avalon, Whale Beach and Palm Beach within easy reach.

We look forward to welcoming you to a home that turns architectural intelligence into the simple pleasures of daily life: morning light gathering beneath the roof, warmth held in concrete, a gentle breeze passing through generous spaces, and Pittwater glistening beyond the trees.
