Nigel Satterley’s continued success in residential land development has come as no surprise to observers who have watched his meteoric rise in Western Australia.

Born and bred in the wheatbelt town of Cunderdin, the raw teenager with little experience of city life arrived in Perth with boundless energy and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Nigel scanned the situations vacant columns in the local papers every day and got his first job in the rag trade. In a remarkable coup he beat many older and experienced rivals to become the WA State representative for Levi Jeans. He was barely 20.

He became well known on St George’s Terrace and among the leading figures of the finance and investment sectors who gave him advice were B.F. Prindiville and Sir James McCusker. It was Sir James, the former banker and founder of Town and Country Building Society, who advised Nigel to go into home building.

While he was at Levis, Nigel made a profit of $10,000 from his first real estate transaction. That profit enabled him to set up Statesman Homes and by sheer hard work it was not long before this new company was among the leading builders in WA, selling up to 650 homes a year.

In 1980, Nigel moved into land development and pioneered new strategies for masterplanned estates including higher standards for community amenities and family lifestyle. Satterley Property Group has now sold more than 80,000 residential lots and controls a land bank of around 45,000 lots. It is estimated more than 250,000 people live on home lots built by the Satterley across more than 180 residential estates.

Today, Nigel’s energy and drive continues to shape and grow Satterley. He is passionate in his vision to achieve successful outcomes for the company, its investor partners, and the buyers who make their homes and raise their families in Satterley’s masterplanned communities.

He is a sought-after expert on Australian residential housing markets and cycles, taking on advisory roles to the Australian Federal Government and continually advocates to improve housing affordability with all levels of government.

In 2015 Nigel was honoured with a Doctor of Business by Edith Cowan University in WA for his contributions to the WA business and housing sectors and his philanthropic activities in the community.

Nigel and Denise Satterley are active philanthropists and patrons of the arts. Nigel is a life member and former No 1 ticket holder of the West Coast Eagles Football Club. He is a former Swim Thru Perth champion and still swims up to two kilometres every day.
