Working in the Retirement Living Industry has taught me many skills that can be applied equally to work & life in general. I have learnt to be a good listener and to always respect people as individuals with different needs & desires. Remember that life can change at the drop of a hat so make the most of every opportunity and live to create great memories because at the end of the day, that will be what matters the most.

In the 27 years I have worked in the Retirement Living Industry at Henry Kendall Gardens my highlight has remained the same – Knowing that we make a positive difference in the lives of our residents. Often as people age, they begin to feel like a burden to themselves & subsequently their loved ones, yet when they come to live in the village, with the support of the whole village community including residents & staff at the village, they get to feel like they are living their life, their own way again.

I have lived on the Central Coast for my whole life & I started at Henry Kendall Gardens at the age of 19 as an Emergency Response attendant in our Serviced Apartments whilst studying nursing at university. Over the years as my career interests & lifestyle changed – once I has a family, I moved into an administration role & progressed up to be Assistant Manager & then Serviced Apartments Manager in 2013 with the added brief of Sales manager for the Serviced Apartments.

In 2018, I decided to extend my career experience in the industry further took on the role of Sales manager for the whole village, which included Independent Living homes as well as Serviced Apartments. In 2020 I was promoted to Senior Sales manager for the Central Coast Region & enjoy creating a supportive team culture amongst the Lendlease Central Coast villages.

No two days are the same at the village with a wide range of activities & challenges & celebrations we are involved in daily, with our goal remaining a constant focus – to provide a safe & supportive community & environment for our residents to retain or even improve their current quality of life.

When not at work, I enjoy spending time at home with my family and now that my kids have grown into young adults, I enjoy spending my spare time, either walking our dog along the lake edge or beach, attending to my plants or attending to my Bees and their Hive as a registered Apiarist.

Don’t be afraid to research & visit villages even before your ready to move, it will provide clarity & confidence on Contract / financial options available plus where & what you’re looking for in your next home when you do feel it’s the right time to make the move.

TOP TIP FOR VENDORS:

Make early communication with the village manager when you are intending to leave so that relevant information can be provided on the vacating & resale process in relation to your contract terms and also allows for early commencement of the vacating documentation/processes & better clarity around timeframes for when your Exit Entitlement will be received.
