Getting out of Marsden Park Elara in peak hours can be very time-consuming. The roads can get clogged at the escape routes out of Marsden Park Elara, which can be made worse during an emergency. Especially if the Marsden Park Rural Fire Brigade needs to get to you in a hurry.

So it is important that you take precautions to manage the risks and reduce fire hazards in your home, rented or otherwise.

House fires can be caused by faulty electrical appliances, open fires, heaters, or unattended cooking.

Any kind of fire that affects your home can be devastating and a fundamental step to managing this risk is having working smoke alarms.

Smoke alarms also need to be checked and cleaned regularly so that they are in tip-top working order.

Smoke alarms are essential to ensuring home fire safety. They give you an early warning in the event of fire and ensure you have a chance to get out of the property and to a safe location. You can get a Smoke Alarm at one of the many stores located within Marsden Park Elara - Bunnings, Ikea, Costco, Aldi, JB Hi-Fi, JayCar.

Fire and Rescue NSW is also encouraging residents to aim for a higher level of protection by installing interconnected smoke alarms in every bedroom, living space (including hallways and stairways) and even the garage in their home.

On average, 21 deaths occur in residential fires across NSW every year says a case study research by the NSW Fire Investigation and Research Unit.  A third to a half of those fatalities, says the research, may have been prevented if the homes had working smoke alarms and had a practised home escape plan.

NSW legislation stipulates that residents must have at least one working smoke alarm, which is sometimes mistakenly referred to as “smoke detectors”, installed on each level of their home. This includes owner- occupied, rental properties, relocatable homes or any other residential building where people sleep.

The legislation refers to residential accommodation across NSW including Marsden Park Elara and requires the installation of one or more smoke alarms in buildings in which people sleep. All Smoke alarms must be operational. No one is to remove or interfere with the operation of smoke alarms. Anyone who does not comply with the legislation is guilty of an offence.

So it is important that you take precautions to ensure that your smoke alarms are operational and regularly checked for the safety of your loved ones.

In any doubt about fire safety, consult a professional or call the Marsden Park Elara Rural Fire Brigade for advice.
