This page says where the information on RealSearch comes from, how we use it, and what we do when we do not know something.
Where the data comes from
Where does the information come from?
Different parts of the site use different sources.
- Addresses and map locations: the Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), the national address list for Australia.
- Listings, inspection times and auctions: provided by the real estate agencies that list on RealSearch.
- Planning applications near a property: collected from councils by the PlanningAlerts service.
- Suburb profiles: a report for each suburb, with statistics such as median sale price and median rent. Each report says when it was last updated.
- Agents and agencies: details supplied by the agencies, and what is on their listings.
How fresh it is
How up to date is it?
Information is updated at different times, and a page can be behind the real world.
- Where a page has a date, such as a suburb report's last updated date, it is shown on the page.
- A listing can be sold, rented or withdrawn before we update it. Check with the agency.
- Inspection and auction times can change. Check with the agency before you travel.
What we do not know
What if you do not have the data?
We show what we do not know, instead of guessing.
- If we do not hold a fact, the page says it is unknown.
- A home that is not for sale has no asking price. We do not make one up.
- A suburb with no report does not show the report sections.
Estimates
What is an estimate?
Some figures are worked out by a computer from other data. They are estimates.
- An estimate is not a valuation, a price or an offer.
- A page says when a figure is an estimate.
- For a decision that matters, ask a licensed valuer or an agent.
Mistakes
What if something is wrong?
Tell us. We check it against the source and fix it if it is wrong.
- Use the 'Report data errors' link at the bottom of a listing or property page.
- Or contact us with the address of the page and what is wrong.
