Emotionally, this place just grabs you by the eyes, draws you into its fascinating structure, and then, after your senses adjust to the overwhelming beauty of it all, it grabs you by the heartstrings. It's a captivating collection of spaces that you'll love, with tremendously practical elements at the core of what makes the home what it is.
There's a lot of heart in this steel, timber and glass. I don't know how they put it in there, but it's there for sure.
Built by boutique builder Converge Construct in 2022, it's an architect's own home. It was built to provide a wonderful life now, yet with scope to meet the changing needs of life into the future.
LIVING HERE
This is an architectural design, so get used to the idea that it's probably not like any other idea you have ever had. The floor plan shows you some of the arrangement, but it's designed to be experienced, so you'll need to see it in person to connect the drawing of lines with the reality of what it offers.
It's the culmination of somebody finding a site that was all about the views and setting about constructing something positioned to capture the very best of those views, those magnificent sunsets and the beauty of the natural surrounds. Yet, at the same time, being a structure that is a view in and of itself.
Wherever you stand around this property, it is an absolutely amazing sight.
The two pavilions are so perfectly crafted, and there's something extraordinary about seeing it all pulled together into such a magnificent way of life.
The front pavilion is where the day-to-day living of life goes on, with the awesome views setting a dramatic backdrop to every mundane task.
The alfresco area is simply brilliant in its integration with the indoor living spaces. With those huge bifold doors, it's kind of hard to differentiate between what's inside and what's outside. There's just remarkable flow to all of it.
In pavilion two, we have the two bedrooms and the two bathrooms, along with a sun-room or study. The main bedroom upstairs is a dream you wake up to every morning, and it's rude to compare it to a hotel suite. It's way better than that.
THE ARCHITECTURE
Digging into those facts, it seems the modern way of heating and cooling a home is that if it's stinking hot outside, we try to make it freezing cold inside. And if it's freezing cold outside, we try to make it stinking hot inside. There is air conditioning here because it's Australia, so of course sometimes we need it.
However, there's great consideration that has been given to cross ventilation, and the northern orientation allows the property to maximise or minimise the impact of that dreadful sun. Or awesome sun, depending on the season.
This is a home where the practical considerations of living comfortably have been incorporated into a design that is as visually impressive as it is functional.
A real estate agent, no matter how wordy, can never beat the wording of the designer's own brief to himself when crafting it. Here's how he said it…

DESIGN
Anchored into the hill, the home balances light and volume to create architectural richness.
Two pavilions connected along a walkway through a garden. The siting of the house results in an unexpected porosity throughout the site.
Rigorous spatial planning showcasing atmospheric spaces and key connections.
Flexible and highly considered future-proofing for the home and block, including approval for ancillary accommodation on ground level.
Deep engagement with gardens and wider context.
Crafted views create moments of connection both within the home and through the gardens to the horizon beyond.
Distinct and flexible zoning curates the occupants' living experience.
Materials and colours balance contemporary expression within the hills vernacular.
Gardens are an extension of the home's design, reinforcing a sense of continuity and belonging.
Those are his words. I like them.
OUTSIDE
The surrounding gardens are part of the lived experience here, with the terraced sections of the garden and the alfresco area creating a wonderful connection between the home and its natural surroundings.
The gardens aren't simply something to look at through the windows. They're part of the way you live here.
The magnificent outlook, the sunsets, the architectural forms and the surrounding landscape all work together to create something quite remarkable.
It's a home designed to make the most of its position, but also to make the position even more special because of what's been built upon it.
And that's no small achievement.
WHERE IT IS
The location is amazing, with so much so close by. In a neighbourhood with many folks who have been here for decades, this is the newest place in town. It's a beautiful environment, with major shopping centres, schools, cafes, parks and more all within very easy reach.
