New restrictions are now in place for all of NSW

Wednesday, 18 August 2021

The whole of NSW is now under "stay at home" orders. You must stay at home unless you have a reasonable excuse to leave. This also means that you cannot have visitors to your home, including family and friends.

Please follow the rules and stay at home. NSW has had a significant increase in COVID-19 community transmissions!

Remember to check the restrictions for where you live at Service NSW !

Buying food and essential goods and services, and exercise

Here are the rules for how far you can travel to buy food and essential goods and services, as well as for exercising.

Greater Sydney: You can travel up to 5kms from your home, even if it takes you outside your LGA. You can also travel anywhere within your LGA. Do not enter an LGA of concern. See map to calculate your 5km radius.

LGAs of concern: You must stay within 5kms of your home and you cannot travel outside your local government area. See map to calculate your 5km radius.

Regional NSW: You can travel up to 5kms from your home, even if it takes you outside your LGA. You can also travel anywhere within your LGA. If you need to buy essential goods and services that are not available locally, you may travel beyond your LGA or further than 5kms.

If you live in Greater Sydney you cannot travel to regional NSW without a reasonable excuse.

Permit required to leave Greater Sydney

From Saturday 21 August you will need a permit to leave Greater Sydney if you are:

  • An authorised worker from LGAs of concern
  • Inspecting real estate for a home to live in (not an investment property)
  • Travelling to a second home for work, to carry out urgent repairs, or to care for stock/animals (only one person allowed to travel).

If you need to travel for one of these 3 reasons, then you will be able to apply for a permit online from Service NSW at the end of this week.
